Poverty is the greatest problem facing the world today. In economic terms its impact can be measured in billions of dollars annually. In human terms it is unmeasurable. Poverty deprives over a billion people of healthy, productive lives.

Sustainable economic growth and development are key to poverty reduction. However, no simple formula exists to create universal prosperity. The Social Development Group believes that global poverty is best tackled through the use of skilled and experienced professionals, working in close collaboration with counterparts, on focused economic development programs and projects.

This approach has proven successful in over 7 years of extensive involvement in overseas development assistance programs. At all stages of the project cycle the Social Development Group is able to draw upon an experienced and multi-disciplinary team of specialists. With offices in over 20 locations, the Social Development Group specialists can provide the precise skills for poverty reduction projects and programs. These include:

  • good governance

  • public enterprise reform

  • financial enterprise reform

  • capacity building, institutional strengthening and leadership development

  • macro and microeconomic analysis

  • trade and investment analysis

  • health economics and health sector reform

  • agricultural and natural resource economics and management.

The Social Development Group fully understands that a participatory approach is essential to the sustainability of all its projects. Cross cutting issues of gender and the environment are key planks in each intervention.
